Why we fight…

Okay… so maybe “fight” isn’t the best word to associate with weddings and my business, but I wanted a cool title, LOL!  I think the word “journey” will fit better for this post:):)

I want to share with you one of the most important aspects of my business and why I do what I do… the wedding album!  From my clients first consultation, getting to know each other, the engagement session, the wedding, getting to know their family, the photography, the editing, the album design and finally receiving that album… it is a great journey indeed!  I love it!  Although there are many other cool mediums to preserve the memories from your wedding day… like slideshows, canvas, prints, ect…  albums will always be the vehicle that expresses everything I do and what my couples have done better than any other:)

In the business of wedding photography, there are many things I love… telling stories, documenting beautiful relationships, preserving memories, and of course… photography!  The wedding album will always be that one consistant visual medium that will remain true forever… no matter how far technology takes us.   It’s physical, it’s tangible and it will last through the ages.  Don’t get me wrong… I love this digital age!  Look how often it changes… from film, to beta, VHS, DVD, Blue Ray and now to the internet and digital devices.  From modern, to obsolete over and over again.  It will always be changing while the album will always remain constant and last forever.

What about the digital negatives or “high-resolution files”???  For some, it’s a great piece of mind to include them in their wedding package.  It makes them feel “warm”.  It did for myself and my wife for our wedding:):)  At least a quarter of my clients choose to include them in their packages… absolutely nothing wrong with that.  But… for anyone that only received their digital files from their photographer, what do they have to remember now???  Unfortunately, nine times out of ten… it’s a round piece of plastic:(:(  Sad but true.

Wow!  I’m typing way to much and like a great photographer said many times at a workshop I just attended… “I’ll get off my soap box now”, LOL!

I’ll just say that for me, my job doesn’t feel complete until that couple is sitting together enjoying their album.  Check out some recent client albums and studio samples I just received below.  These are among the best quality albums in the world, built to last forever.  Oh, and jeck out the wicked wooden style cover at the bottom.  This cover style is designed by Steve & Jen Bebb from The Bebbs in Vancouver… what an amazing couple!  They were recently in town for a workshop and me being the geek I am, I had to get it signed:):)  You can also view some slideshows from a few of the actual album designs.  Thanks so much and enjoy the albums!

The story about an album…

Okay, so I have the cutest story ever to share with you!!  This last February I photographed the wonderful Whitney & Bill getting married at The Gates.  They live in Saskatchewan and recently moved from Rosetown to Yorkton because of Bill’s career.  Whitney was bitten by the wedding bug and is having a blast working as a florist now:)  They are the sweetest couple ever!! (Sorry to label you as sweet Bill, LOL)  It was by luck that Whitney was driving through Winnipeg at the same time her album came to the studio.  She rushed into the house to check it out an looked just like Carrie Bradshaw when she finds a new pair shoes… I can’t believe I made a Sex and the City Reference!!!

Anyways… when she got back home, Bill was still away for work and Whitney couldn’t wait for him to get back!  She met him eagerly at the door with their wedding album bursting with excitement to show him.  They looked through the album together, and when they arrived at the last page with the picture of their first dance, a note awaited him telling him he’s gonna be a daddy!

Yah… pretty awesome hey!!!  Congratulations you two!!!  These albums are the most amazing keepsakes ever and I can’t wait to share more with you from this year!  Below is a nice little message Whitney included in her story plus some pics from the wedding and album to check out.  Thanks and I am sooo excited for you two!!!  (And I can’t wait for the maternity shoot, LOL!)

More Album Goodness…

Hey everyone, I have had many requests to post my client albums as they come in for all my out of town Brides & Groom to check out.  Well the Fedex guy dropped off some gems this week so here you go:)  I talked a little bit about layout designs a few posts ago and now it’s time to see where they go.  These albums are hand made and build to last in your family for generations.  I am always blown away with the build quality everytime I open a box and the only bad thing is saying goodbye to them, LOL!  If anyone has any questions about wedding albums please let me know.  There are also some pics of my guest books to be used at receptions and an oh so cute pic of Bethany sleeping from the other night.  Enjoy!

Here are they final layout designs for each wedding…
